Tokyo most popular Shrine which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2020! – ‘Meiji Shrine (Meiji Jingu)’

The Meiji Shrine was built in 1920s and is located just beside Harajuku Station. This shrine is dedicated to the souls of the Emperor Meiji (1852-1912) and his wife, Empress Shoken (1849-1914). It has an extensive land area of 700,000 square meters.

About 100,000 trees, of around 200 different species, have been donated from people all over Japan and from overseas. The lush sight of this forest will makes you forget the fact that you are still in a very big city.

The Meiji Shrine is also known as the God for matchmaking, peace and prosperity in the household. It is also know to bring good luck for physical safety and academic achievement. This is one of the reasons this place is always crowed with many worshipers.
On New Year’s Day, the shine can be crowed with as many as 3 million visitors and worshipers at Meiji Shrine.

There are also many other interesting places such as Shiseikan Dojo (Martial Arts Training Hall), Kiyomasa-Ido (well) and many more. Meiji Jingu museum is scheduled to open in 2019 as a memorial service for the 100th anniversary of Meiji Jingu establishment.

Many events will be expected to take place in the Meiji Shrine, which is near to the 100th anniversary. Why don’t you come and visit and be appart of the vibrant celebrations.
