An innovative foreigner-oriented inn has opened in Shinjuku Araki-cho on 30th December 2017!
“Tadaima Japan Shinjuku Ryokan” opened in a quiet and nostalgic residential area walking about 3 minutes from ‘Akebonobashi Station’ on the Toei Shinjuku Line. It is a new style accommodation where you can experience the taste of Japanese-style ryokan (inn).
In Edo era, Araki-cho used to be the residence of Settsu Matsudaira. After the Meiji period, it developed as a flower town and still known as flower town till this day. Also after the world war II, Fuji TV and Nippon Cultural Broadcasting Inc. are developed in this area and became the restaurant town where cultural people gather. Even today, there are nearly 300 nostalgic restaurants and bars standing side by side. It is a perfect spot for tourists.
In “Tadaima Japan Shinjuku Ryokan”, a ryokan staff called “yadoin” also plays a role of regional concierge and supports foreign tourists together with the city.
Here you can also experience the ordinary life of a Japanese local, such as sleeping in a futon bed in a tatami room, relaxing in a hot bath or enjoying Japanese culture, foods, drinks and much more.
On the first floor, there is a front desk, lounge, shower room, hot bath which changes by the season such as the yuzu and herbal bath.
The second and third floors have guest rooms. There are rooms on the either sides of the aisle which has an atmosphere like an Edo period downtown.
This is an inn with elements like a hostel so it might be unsuitable for people who want to have high levels of privacy, but it is recommended for those who would like to enjoy relationships with other guests or local people in a very authentic and traditional Japanese atmosphere.
